Hiking Tips

  • Wearing closed toe sturdy shoes can prevent rolled ankles as well as stubbed toes.

  • When hiking the general rule of thumb is 1 Liter of water per hour, and one snack per hour. especially with young ones! Keep in mind you know your body best.

  • Check the weather and choose a good day to avoid be caught in inclement weather. Pick your hike ahead of time and bring a map.

  • For longer hikes it is important to maintain a steady pace so you don’t get to tired. Try timing between your breaks such as 20 minutes of hiking 2 minutes of break.

  • Always have at least one other person with you if you are going on low-traffic trails or be accepting of the risk you take. Leaving information with someone not in the group of where your going and when you expect to be back.

    • Plan ahead: Know the rules and regulations of the area you're visiting. 

    • Travel on durable surfaces: Stick to established trails and campsites. 

    • Pack it in, pack it out: Take all trash with you. 

    • Leave what you find: Don't disturb natural objects. 

    • Respect wildlife: Observe from a distance and don't feed animals. 

    • Be considerate of others: Keep noise levels low and yield to other visitors.
